Necropoli Monumentale

The Monumental Necropolis of Pizzone is an extraordinary testimony to Roman Nuceria. Discovered between 1994 and 1997, the area revealed large mausoleums, funerary enclosures, columellae, and burials arranged along an ancient monumental road. Buried for centuries beneath alluvial deposits and material from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the necropolis preserves the memory of the aristocratic families of Nuceria, their prestige, and the deep connection between funerary architecture, identity, and the cult of the dead.
